Public Notice, June 14th, 2022

The Germantown History Department and Waterfront Advisory Committee have two events planned for Saturday, June 18th. There will be a kayak/canoe tour of the Germantown waterfront, including the history of each site, starting at Lasher Park at 9am.

The Waterfront Advisory Committee’s annual water chestnut pull will begin at Cheviot Park at 10am. The kayak tour should pull into Cheviot around 11am for anyone who wants to participate in both events.

Please RSVP to germantownhistory@gmail.com by 6/17/22 to be added to the kayak/canoe tour. Bring your own boat, paddle, lifejacket and dress for the conditions.

For the water chestnut pull, plan to get wet, bring water shoes, gloves and any of the following to assist: a garden rake, hedge shears, a couple of five gallon buckets, and your own canoe or kayak. The group will be clearing the dock area and opening a path through the weeds to the main channel of the Hudson River. Without this yearly effort, Cheviot dock would be closed off all summer.
